ONE of the major events in the Royal North Devon veterans' calendar, the Founders Salvers Trophy, saw 30 'drawn' couples competing in Greensomes Stableford format.

New member Patrick Bowrey (9) gained victory in his first veterans' competition with partner John Eland (18), scoring a superb 44 points. But they only beat runners-up Richard Tuckett (16) and Peter Jefferies (21) on the last nine holes.

Tom Stirzaker (14) and Jeremy Wright (25) took third place with 41 points, also on the back nine from Mike Taylor (17) and Alec Craner (22).

The final of the Emerton Court competition against Churston was cancelled through heavy rain. A new date for the match still has to be arranged.

Sam Phillips topped the scoring in recent Woolacombe and Mortehoe competitions with 45 points to take Division 1 of the Seniors Stableford.
