Bideford cricketer Rose Ball has been selected for the England Women’s Development Programme U15 Summer Competition.

Bideford Cricket Club’s Rose Ball has been selected for the England Women’s Development Programme U15 Summer Competition in Shrewsbury in August.

Rose, 14, a right arm pace bowler and useful middle order batter, has been playing cricket since the age of seven and has represented Devon at Under 13 and 15 Levels.

She regularly plays for Tarka Ladies and Bideford men’s teams and is also completing her Activator Course in coaching.

Rose said: “I’m really excited to have been selected for England; it’s a dream come true.

“I know I still have a lot of hard work in front of me but I intend to give it my all. It’s a privilege to join the England Squad and I take nothing for granted.”

Proud dad Mike added: “Rose has been on the verge of national selection before when she was chosen as a reserve for last season’s competition.

“She has worked really hard over the last year and it is fantastic that this has been rewarded with this call-up.

“I would like to thank all the coaches at her club, district and county level who have worked with Rose to achieve this.

“It’s now time for her to step up to the plate and grab this opportunity. We’re all thrilled of course and can’t wait for the competition to begin.”

Rose has also been asked to join a Devon Girls U19 team to take part in an International U21 tournament in Cape Town, South Africa next March and is currently fundraising to pay for the trip.
