Bideford 17-10 Cullompton
BIDEFORD had plenty to feel good about after a 17-10 double-up win over visiting Cullompton.
The league points lifted Bideford six points clear of Wadebride in the third relegation place.
Victory also sent Bideford into the semi-finals of the Devon Intermediate Cup and a date with Ivybridge as the game was played as a winner-takes-all affair.
The two sides should have met in the cup between Christmas and New Year, but the weather got in the way.
A first-minute try by George Snell pointed Bideford the right direction but it was slow going for the rest of the half.
Ollie Wickett landed a penalty for Bideford with Adam Pearce replying for Cully.
Wickett landed three more penalties after the break to put the game out of Cully’s reach.
Cully brought powerhouse No.8 Sam Harris on for his long-awaited return after injury and he celebrated with a try that Pearce converted.
“Considering the conditions it was a good game in which we had a bit more up front than they did,” said Bideford’s director of rugby James Morris.
“Sidmouth this Saturday will be a good one for us to win as that should move us a bit further away from the bottom.”
