North Devon angling scene, with Tony Gussin...

Sea anglers across North Devon are sharpening hooks and licking their lips in anticipation of Bideford and District Angling Club's Annual Festival.

The event runs from Friday, August 26 until the Sunday, with fishing throughout that period and a guaranteed prize fund of £500.

It has wide limits, with fishing allowed from the Upper Severn Bridge right round through to Hengistbury Head in Dorset.

It is £20 to fish the whole weekend, or anglers can choose to fish a single 24 hours, with signing in at the Bideford clubhouse in Honestone Street between 7.30-8.30pm on the Friday and Saturday evenings.

Weigh ins will be held at the clubhouse at 7pm on the Saturday and 8.30pm on the Sunday. A list of specimen sizes will apply.

It is a great opportunity for anglers to dedicate a weekend to fishing and put in some miles to seek out different species, with sleep an optional extra.

It is hoped as many people as possible will sign up this year.

A fine brace of specimen smoothound gave Nathan Clements first place in the July North Devon League sea angling heat.

His fish of 13 pounds and a quarter ounce plus 12lb 2 ½ oz (specimen ratings of 133.156 and 121.406 per cent) ensured a comfortable first and second place.

Third place also went to a specimen, with Graham Snow landing a good thin-lipped mullet of 3lb 12 ¼ (100.417).
