Barnstaple and Pilton go into the final round of games in the D Division East still chasing promotion.

Top two Exmouth and Heathcoat second XIs are already up, which leaves a straight fight between Chardstock and Barnstaple for the third promotion place.

Chardstock are 10 points clear of Steve Moore’s side, but have Exmouth to play in the last round of games.

Exmouth’s motivation is to pick-up the win they need to ensure promotion as champions.

Barnstaple are away to Sandford II, a side with a different agenda but just as much motivation.

Sandford are locked in fight with North Devon II to stay up and need three more points on the last day than their Instow rivals to be sure of staying up.

No easy points anywhere then, unlike last Saturday when Barnstaple collected 20 points for a walkover when bottom side Uplyme and Lyme Regis cried off a trip to Raleigh Meadow.

North Devon II dropped into the D East bottom two after losing by 46 runs to Chardstock.

Steve Allsopp (50) and Gary Larcombe (77) were the primary run getters for Chardstock in their total of 206 for six. Larcombe was involved in stands that put on 149 runs.

Rob Ayre and Tim Cooke had two wickets each for North Devon.

North Devon had trouble keeping up with the asking rate and at 100 for six were behind the clock a long way out.

Three batters got into the 20s – James Tyson (23) the best of them – and Ross Clayton top scored on 36.

Pick of the bowlers with three for 27 was James Pyman.
