FOLLOWING the success of its two inaugural Coast to Coast charity cycle rides, Bideford Bridge Rotary Club, helped by colleagues from across North Devon, is launching two more events for this summer. The popular Tarka Funride comprises small, five to 10-mile, chunks for families, friends, clubs organisations and businesses, while the more challenging Two Moors Sportif is 100 miles for experienced cyclists. Both events are being held on Sunday, July 19, and have been sponsored by Parkwood Leisure. They will start from Barnstaple Leisure Centre. The Tarka Fun Ride is expected to attract a large number of families, who can choose any section of the Tarka Trail, from the scenic and flat estuary into the countryside to Meeth.Last year's event raised more than £1,000 in sponsorship while some teams in fancy dress also turned heads and raised smiles. This year there will be spot prizes on the day for cute kids and fancy dress.Tremendous interest is also expected for the Sportif. Last year's event from coast to coast raised £5,500. This year it is hoped to triple the number of entries and money raised. It will be a tough course over 160km on country lanes, with more than 10,000 feet of climbs in the stunning scenery of Dartmoor and Exmoor. There is also a shorter 100km course.Entrants in both events can choose which registered charity they wish to receive 50 per cent of the money they raise. The other 50 per cent will go to local Rotary Club charities.Apart from entering to ride, both these events provide scope to promote products and services to a wide range of age groups of local people and visitors. Any businesses wishing to benefit from sponsoring such resources as printing of brochures and posters, T shirts and hats and prizes etc, should contact Bernard Wragge-Morley on (01237) 423388.Cycle ride entrants are encouraged to book early.
