MORE than 500 young athletes arrived by coach, car and minibus for the Grenville College Millennium Cross Country Races in Bideford on FridayThe children aged from eight to 13 years came from 21 schools from all over North Devon and as far afield as Plymouth to race in what was described as "soft going."The event, which was first held in 2000, is organised by Grenville College Cross Country Club, led by Andy Lane.Outstanding runners included Levan Hutchinson of Parkham Primary, who won the under-9 boys race; Emily Williams of Instow Primary, who won the under-11 girls; and Ned Oliver of Pyworthy Primary, who won the under-11 boys race from a field of 160.The most consistently successful school was Woolacombe, with a second place, two thirds and a fourth in the team competitions.
