Chulmleigh Community College’s U14 Badminton team took part in the National Schools Badminton finals on Sunday.

The four-man team of Rob Warren, Matthew Upright, Ryan Dawson and Aaron Beel travelled to the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes, where they battled it out against eight other teams from across the country.

They took one win from their four matches on the day, a 3-2 victory over Newbridge High School.

They suffered closely-fought 3-2 defeats to The Coopers’ Company and Coburn School, V King Edward VI Camp Grammar School for Boys and Bolton Independent School.

Speaking about the experience, Dawson said: “We had a brilliant time at the National Badminton Centre, it was fantastic to compete against players who already represent England and play at such a high level.”

That sentiment was echoed by Beel, who said: “It was a fantastic experience, it’s the highest level we’ve ever played at, and will learn from our mistakes and come back stronger.”
