JAY Chadwick marked his return to the Torrington ranks after two years away from rugby by kicking the U16s to a 6-5 win over Bude.
The two sides served up a cracking game of rugby played in the right way.
Defences were tested – thundering runs by Torrie props Pete White and Harvey Hill and hooker Adrian Wood shook Bude – but there was no score in the first half.
Finally, Torrie eared an attempt at goal just before half time but Liam Ellis sent his kick wide of the uprights.
There was no let up in the second half as the teams tore into each other.
Locks Shane Roach and Sam Freemantle and wingmen Callum Burton and Ashley Deakin kept Bude at bay.
Finally, Torrie won a shot at goal that Chadwick sent through the uprights.
Ten minutes from time Bude worked the ball wide then cut back inside to score the only try of the game.
As time ticked away Jordan Hooper chased a Dan Barrett kick, but was denied by a wicked bounce.
Three minutes from time Bude gave away a penalty close to halfway. Skipper Dan Cannon asked Chadwick to have a go and he struck sweetly between the posts.
Even then it wasn’t over. Bude set up a driving maul from a line-out, but were held up over the line by the combined efforts of Barret and flanker Eliot Howard.
