Stafford Moors open match on Sunday saw 39 fishing on both Woodpecker and Tanners lake. Solid rain did not prevent Chris Davis from taking first place with an excellent haul of 176lb 7oz from Woodpecker, beating his closest rival Ricky Johnstons 131lb 2oz bag from Tanners. Mark Hayman was third with 113lbs 1oz and Mike Kempson fourth with 110lbs 5oz. The previous Sundays match saw Hayman take first with 120lb 10oz, with Bob Poulton second on 118lb 9oz and Ben Everden third with 117lb 5oz. Two of the carp busters, aka Chrissy and Geoff Waring, had a cracking day at Stafford Moor with 50 fish up to 30lb 6oz in 48 hours. Adam Hilton fished the summerhouse swim on Beatties lake using homemade boilies to land fish up to 23lb 10oz. On the sea scene, smoothound continue to make up the bulk of catches and are usually easy enough to tempt from the usual marks using crab baits, as long as they are there, of course the fast moving fish have a habit of being there today, gone tomorrow. The recent North Devon League heat was dominated by hounds, with Steve Baker taking first for Barnstaple Rod n Reelers with a near specimen fish of 9lb 15¼oz, while team-mate Paul Ackland was second with another of 9lb 6¼oz. Third went to Bidefords Andy Clements with a hound of 7lb 5½oz. The next NDL heat is on the weekend of July 23-24 with the weigh-in at Appledore.
