Alex Munn takes shot put bronze in Birmingham with near-p.b. performance

Alex Munn did himself and Braunton Academy proud last week, winning a bronze medal in the shot put event at the English Schools Athletic Championships in Birmingham.

Competing for Devon in the inter-boys competition, Alex threw 14.24 metres, just below his personal best.

In sweltering temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius in the sun, Alex missed out on the silver medal by only 5 cm.

The Braunton Academy youngster is relatively new to the Sport compared to his fellow competitors, only throwing seriously in the last two years.

Alex thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“At this level, with every competitor having thrown over 13.50 metres to get to Birmingham, you really have to push yourself to the limit,” he said.

Braunton Academy principle Mr Sharratt said: “We are all very proud of Alex’s success in this prestigious national event.”

Alex has been selected as reserve to participate for England in the Home Countries under-17 International in Dublin.
