BIDEFORD Blues sent one of its strongest squads to Dartmouth Regatta to race against crews from all over the West of England and all the way up the south coast to Shoreham in Sussex.

Young sculler Alice Jackson took the limelight, with victory in both the Women's Junior 18 and under-16 sculls all-but securing the West of England championships in both events.

Alice is also a member of the Women's Junior 16 Quad with Jessica and Hannah Myers, Annie Cook and cox Zoe Robertson, who had already secured their WEARA championship. This time, however, the crew were left a little bit behind at the start by their closest rivals Totnes and lost out to them by a one length verdict.

The Ladies Novice Four of Holly and Kristy Webbe, Amy Alford, Kellie Edwards and cox Colin Pennington made light work of their heat before going into the final and winning by two lengths. Gaining their last novice win they will now move up to Senior C for their home regatta at Bideford.

The young crew of Annie Cook and Megan Harty were placed second in a field of seven in the Woman's Under 16 Double Scull.

The Senior C Ladies crew of Becky Jeffery, Nicky Reed, Ashleigh Clayton and Kate Wilson were third in their heat and sixth in the final.

There was a strong second place for the Men's Junior 16 Quad crew of Ollie Roberts-Keys, Jack Harty, Ben Reeve, Owen Godwin and cox Chris Daniels and also for the Men's Veteran Masters crew of Neil Pennington, Nigel Cann, Glenn Wilkins, Colin Pennington and cox Holly Webbe, who were catching up fast but finished just six feet behind the leaders.

The Men's Under 18 crew of Tom Loka, Steven Povey, Adam Bewes, Milo George and cox Chris Daniels also gained second place behind the title favourites Totnes.

Adam and Tom joined Ashleigh and Becky with cox Chris Daniels to come third in the Mixed Senior C Four final. Steven also teamed up with Milo in the Men's Senior C Double Scull to record a fourth place and Steven sculled to a fourth place in the Men's Junior 18 Sculls.
