BIDEFORD Quins were convincing 29-7 winners over their Torquay namesakes in a Merit Table Two game at King George's.The whole team played with conviction and the defence was solid.Tom Evans from the second row put in a Man-of-the-Match performance with some good line-out work and solid running in open play.Bideford went straight on the attack leading to Dave Heywood scoring in the corner by out-running the remaining defender.Andy Baxter touched down in the same corner chasing his own chip through and putting Bideford 12-0 up in the first 20 minutes.Torquay got back to 12-7 down with a try under the posts.Before half time Bideford hit back and, from the front of a line-out, Mike Buckland was driven over.Mark Heal came on at scrum half and scored the try of the match, coasting in from 20 yards out after seeing a gap.The scoring was wrapped up as a result of good work from Simon Mitchell that allowed Massie to be driven over from short range.There were many nominees for Man of the Match. Team managers hope the standard of performance can be repeated and built on in future games, starting with Devonport at home this Saturday.
