BIDEFORD Chiefs suffered a setback on the way to the promotion play-offs in the Western Counties West Division when they went down 21-17 at Torquay Athletic.
Torquay were third on the morning of the match and Bideford second.
After 80 minutes the positions were reversed with Bideford two points behind with two games and 10 points to play.
Ollie Wickett kicked Bideford ahead after two minutes, but by half time Torquay were 13-3 up.
Bideford went a man down when Richard Norman was sin-binned and while he was off Torquay went further ahead.
At 21-3 to the Tics with 20 minutes to go, it looked game over for Bideford.
Then Torquay went a forward down due to a sin-binning and Bideford used the extra man up front to score two tries through forward drives, both claimed by Matt Dennnis.
Torquay held on in the last five minutes to take second place at Bideford’s expense.
Bideford’s last two league games are Truro at home and Devonport Services away. Torquay play Bude away and champions North Petherton at home.

BIDEFORD Quins only had 14 men for the trip to Torquay 3rd XV, but went anyway and were loaned four players by their hosts to get the game on.
A strong Torquay side ran out 32-17 winners.
