TWO members of the Bideford Rifle Club shot for their county for the first time on Sunday and helped Devon juniors to victory over Cornwall in their Powderham Cup match.

Jack Oliver and Oliver Bailey-Coombs were two of the five-strong Devon junior team which ran out winners by 26 points. Jack scored 542 and Oliver 560 out of a possible 600 points.

The Powderham match was part of the South West Open meeting held in Moretonhampstead, with attracted more than 70 entries from all over the region.

Club colleague Martin Morgan also represented Devon in the county's match against the Civil Service and in the Inter-County team competition, both of which they won.

There were also successes for Bideford members in a range of individual competitions.

Oliver Bailey Coombs came away with five gold medals in Class D competitions. Together with his father Michael Coombs he also took gold in the Class B,C and D pairs.

Ann Travis picked up two bronze medals in Class A competitions.

At the end of the meeting the leading competitors in each class took part in an Olympic-style final.

In the closest of competitions Oliver won in a 'sudden death' shoot-out with a youngster from Dorset.
