BIDEFORD Cricket Club has submitted a planning application to Torridge District Council for a new cricket pavilion at its Westward Ho! Ground. The proposed new 324 square metre single storey building will be the state of the art in terms of helping to develop and grow cricket in the Bideford area. It is estimated the cost of the new pavilion will be in the region of £350,000. It will enable all players, including girls and women and the disabled, to have the opportunity of facilities provided specifically for them.Club chairman Brian Champion said: " This is a massive but much needed project to take the club forward not only in terms of bringing our facilities into the 21st century, but also to give us the ability to help both increase the number of younger players coming into the game, and further widen the game to potential players who have to date been largely excluded."The club hopes to make an application to Sport England's Rural Communities Themed Round Fund to help begin to finance the project. The club is also grateful for the support and guidance it has received from both officers and elected members of Torridge District Council and Devon County Council.
