TWO young Bideford boxers will be off to the schoolboys' Six-Counties divisional finals in Southampton next month after winning through the Western Area rounds.Ray Penfold became Western Area champion in the 50-52kg category for 14-15 years-olds following a good win in Bristol on Sunday night.He took the title with a unanimous points decision over Raj Nanji of Walcott ABC. With a tight defence, Penfold countered any attacks from his game opponent with crisp left and right counter punches. He made good use of the ring and by the third round Nanji was landing few punches. Also off to the quarter-finals will be Bideford clubmate Ishter Witt, who had a bye in the 38-40kg, 13-14 years age group. * * *Combe Martin ABC light middleweight Mark Peach got the year off to a flying start with a convincing win at Weymouth on Saturday.The 19-year-old was competing in his seventh bout against Paul Sharland of Taunton ABC at the Open Show in the Dorset Riviera Hotel.From the first bell the Combe Martin man took control and was soon stabbing out a solid left jab and catching his opponent with convincing combinations. Well ahead by the third round, he then launched a flurry of punches which forced his opponent to take a standing count and ran out a comfortable winner.
