BIDEFORD Boxing Club’s Ricky Dymond bowed out in the semi-finals of the National Junior ABA championships after showcasing his potential in Portsmouth against three times national champion Ellis Delaney of West Ham ABC.
The Bideford boxer showed Delaney no respect, rushing out to control the centre of the ring and firing off fast counter punches.
After taking the first round Dymond grew in confidence and tried to up his workrate throwing plenty of combinations. But Delaney showed great footwork to catch the him on the way forward and the West Ham boxer’s counter left hooks stood out to level up the scores entering the final round.
There was silence in the crowd at the finish, as no-one sure which way the decision would go, but Delaney emerged top on the judges’ cards.
Dymond will take great credit from his season, reaching two national semi-finals and gaining 10 wins out of 13.
