THE hard-fighting wrasse continues to provide plenty of action for Bideford anglers and dominated the latest sea roving competition.A specimen of 5lb 1 3/8 ounces easily gave Richard Boon first place, Jazzer John taking second with a good fish of 4lb 7 5/8oz, while third went to Damian Babb with a fish of 3lb 14 1/2.Kieron Jewell won the junior section with a decent wrasse of 3lb 4oz and Thomas Downing took both second and third spots with a dogfish of 1lb 6 1/2 and a 1lb 5/8 pollack.A daughter and dad double took the honours at Bideford's Junior and Senior Flounder Competition, with Damian Babb and four-year-old Cleo producing a combined weight of 1lb 5oz. They were the only competitors to weigh in after a frustrating morning trying to lure the crafty flounder from its lair.This Sunday it might be possible to tip the scales in the anglers' favour as Bideford AC hosts its annual Cyril Petherick Memorial open flounder competition.There is a guaranteed £100 prize and fishing limits are on both sides of the River Torridge between Appledore lifeboat slipway to Ha'penny Bridge at Weare Giffard, including the iron bridge at Landcross.Competitors can book in at Bideford Angling Club in Honestone Street between 9.30-10.30am. The weigh-in is back at the clubhouse at 5.30pm.Entry is £4 adults with £1 optional pool and £1 for juniors.
