BARNSTAPLE RFC under-11s scored an unforgettable victory on the hallowed turf of Twickenham on Saturday.Having reached the Plate final at the Gullivers Nottingham Rugby Festival in April, the Barnstaple youngsters ran on to the Twickenham turf to face West Norfolk. They made a bit of a shaky start, but soon got their act together and after some slick passing from Isaac Hydleman and Sam Roberts they took the lead when Bradley Campbell dodged through the opposition and dived over the line. Confidence boosted, they held the lead to the break and then started the second half with a bang. A line-out was taken, which then formed a ruck and the ball went into the hands of scrum half Joshy Roberts. With a swift side step he dived over the line to extend the lead to 10-0.Great tackling from Tom Karslake and Barnaby Meadowcroft and strong running from Robbie Hume, Nathanial Bayet, Nick Harris and Alexi Bullpet, all contributed to the matchwinning tries. As the final whistle blew, the players, coaches and the noisy, but supportive, friends and families, exploded. They had done it! It was a wonderful achievement and an exciting day, which ended with everyone enjoying the Guinness Premiership Final. The boys have had an amazing season, winning the Clifton Festival, the Devon Cup and, now, another victory at Twickenham.
