BARNSTAPLE suffered the anguish of losing a game they really should have won when Bracknell beat them 18-17 in South West One thanks to an injury-time try.Barum were never behind in the game until eight minutes into time added on, which made the defeat all the harder to bear.Kevin Squire, Barnstaple's director of rugby, said: "We did more than enough to win the game so to lose the way we did was a kick in the guts."We did not deserve to lose this game, especially the way we did in the last minute of injury time."Five minutes in Barum went 3-0 up when Neil Giddy knocked over a penalty.Two minutes before half time Barnstaple went 10-0 up when Giddy converted after Mark Galliford capitalised on great work by Paul Scheres to dot down near the posts.Big-spending Bracknell went up a gear in the second half and tried to use their powerhouse forwards to boss the game.Barnstaple held Bracknell out until the 57th minute when visiting lock Alex Leishman crashed over for Ben Nowak to convert.Five minutes later Barum were penalised for sticking a hand where it shouldn't have been in a ruck and Nowak levelled the scores.Barnstaple regrouped from the restart, kept the ball close to hand and eventually got round to breaking out from their own half.A 60-metre move ended with Simon Watkinson getting the ball down and Giddy coverting from at tight angle.Three minutes from time Nowak kicked a penalty for Bracknell to leave four points in itBarum felt they had done more than enough to win, but hadn't. Bracknell grabbed a close-range try through Rudal Aiono to snatch the narrowest of wins.Barum visit Reding- ensians this Saturday.l Barnstaple U11s could take heart from their performance despite losing 33-17 to Okehampton.Barum defended manfully with Sam Davis tackling bravely to keep the score to 5-0 to Okehampton at the break.In the third quarter Okehampton extended their lead with four well-executed tries.
