BARNSTAPLE’S winning streak in the University of Exeter League continued when they beat Tavistock 36-0.
With both sets of forwards going toe to toe and not giving an inch, it took inspiration and a little invention from Dom Thorne to score the opening try of the match after six minutes.
Forward pressure allowed Barum to stretch the lead after 15 minutes through a well struck penalty by Thorne, then again after 30 minutes to give a lead of 11-nil going to the break.
Michael Taylor broke the Tavvy defence to score then Thorne went down the left touchline to score after great work by the backs, Jordan Petherbridge converted for 23-0 at the break.
The first points of the second half came from a sweetly struck penalty by Petherbridge.
Thorne then forced his way over for his third try and a personal tally of 21 points to earn Man of the Match
Barnstaple showed their killer instinct when, instead of kicking the ball dead in the last minute, a lovely handling move saw Taylor go over.
Jake Merdith showed up well for for Barum, who travel to arch rivals Okehampton this Sunday.
Bideford U16s broke their duck in the University of Exeter League with a 19-15 win over local rivals Torrington.
They were 12-0 up before Torrie got on the board, but by half time it was close at 12-10.
Bideford went 19-12 up with a converted try through the forwards. Torrie scored a third try in the last minute.
