Six Barnstaple players were joined by three from Exeter, two from Penzance and one from West Dorset to take on some of the countrys finest young players. Barnstaple lost their first game, falling four goals behind to Watford before a late fightback. They couldnt quite pull it back though, losing 7-5. Barnstaple continued to improve in the second game, and got their reward with a 7-6 victory against Cheltenham. That wasnt enough to pull them off the bottom of their group, though, and left them fighting in the play-off group for ninth to 12th places. They beat City of Manchester B 12-8 before hammering Grantham 13-0, but lost 14-4 to Ealing after top-scorer Bob Whittaker, who netted 15 times throughout the tournament, was sent off.
