BARNSTAPLE Swimming Club's senior water polo team were forced to hold on for a 6-6 draw with Paignton in a match they looked like winning easily until the final quarter.A tight first quarter ended 1-2 to the visitors, with only an Ollie Taylor goal for Barnstaple. But two goals from Nigel Smith and others by Daniel Morris and James Gardner pushed Barnstaple 5-2 ahead at half time.Another Nigel Smith goal extended their lead to 6-2 before the home team changed from a zone defence to man for man marking and the stronger Paignton players clawed back three goals. Then Smith then hit the bar, but was judged to have fouled his man and ejected for dissent, from which Paignton equalised. Barnstaple then suffered their eighth ejection, but defended successfully to hold on until the final whistle.
