Barnstaple Amateur Boxing Club’s Jed Davies and Billy Sheppard were in action in junior championships in Avonmouth on Saturday.
Davies resumed a long-standing rivalry with National Smelting Club’s Logan Dorrington, with the last bout ending in a controversial stoppage in Dorrington’s favour.
It was therefore no surprise that Davies went out strongly in the opening exchanges, hitting some powerful left hand shots into Dorrington.
The Barnstaple boxer had the advantage until the end of the second round, before the Bristol boxer turned things around on the counter. A powerful right gave Davies a standing eight count in the final round, and as the contest neared its end, another brought it to a close.
Sheppard followed by example when he took on Josh Pook, pushing forward and landing some quality combinations without giving his opponent any room to work.
The Barnstaple boxer sustained it over all three rounds to get his first win for the club with a unanimous verdict.
The Barnstaple squad is back in action this Saturday at Taunton.
