Barnstaple Amateur Boxing Club’s Findlay Lloyd and Billy Sheppard got the club’s season underway in Buckinghamshire on Saturday night.
The pair were boxing in Haddenham, where Sheppard was a majority points winner against Cheshunt’s Josh Fielder.
The two met in the schoolboy semi-final last season with Fielder coming out on top on that occasion, and the Cheshunt boy had the best of thefirst round on Saturday too.
Sheppard was playing catch-up in the second but got stronger as the contest went on, upping his work rate and landing more punches. The Barnstaple boxer connected with a well-timed straight right that dropped Fielder to the canvas.
After surviving the count Fielder made a contest of the final round, but Sheppard went on to take the decision.
Lloyd was in action against Kemsing’s Jay Phillips, losing on points after a well-fought contest.
Both fighters are in action in Bude on Saturday as they build up to Barnstaple’s home show on November 10 at Barnstaple Rugby Club.
