A charity golf day at the Willingcott Valley Golf Club in support of the Children’s Hospice South West raised £1,311.

The Hookers Golf Society 4 club, no putter, challenge was won by the team of Joe Dymond, Steve Sheppard, Mel Caswell and Ben Caswell. In second place were Ian French, Gavin Passmore, Russell Jenkins and Steve Mcminn. Longest drive, Simon Holder; nearest the pin, Steve Sheppard.

Veterans 36-hole championship: John Hocking (12) retained the Torrington Veterans Championship trophy with an outstanding gross score of 73-67- 140. The net medal trophy was won by Barry Harris (14) with 63-58-121.

The Stableford trophy was won by Norman Danks (20) 37-42-79pts. An 18 hole medal competition played in parallel resulted – 1, J. Brokenshire (24) 60net; 2, M. Dewdney (21) 67; 3, K. Harris (22) 70.

Royal North Devon

Veterans qualifying Stableford: Maurice Clifton was the runaway winner. Playing off 26, he scored 41 points to finish three ahead of David Lloyd (5) 38pts. Brian Chancellor (17) was third on 35 points, beating Bob McDermott (19) on the back nine.

Emerton Court: RND veterans progressed to the next round of the county competition having beaten Holsworthy 8-2 over the home and away fixtures.

Inter Club Seniors: Portmore Seniors 5, Teign Valley 2; Portmore Seniors 6, Fingle Glen 0; Portmore Seniors 6, Chulmleigh 0.

Inter Club Juniors: Portmore Juniors beat Holiton 2-1 at Tiverton to progress to the next round of the Basil Steer trophy.

Inter Club Ladies: Portmore Ladies were 5-1 winners away to Staddon Heights in the Devon Ladies League. Amanda Webber and Alison West were winners at the 19hole against their Fingle Glen opponents to progress to the next round of the Doris Wills Little Trophy competition.

Barbara Lake is destined to become Holsworthy Golf Club’s first lady club captain next year after accepting the role of this year’s vice captain.

Holsworthy Vets: Ken Watson has won his first trophy since he joined the club 16 months ago and a cut in handicap to 14. He won Division 1 of the Stewards Tankard with his impressive score of 39pts, followed by Colin Walmsley 35 and Alan Saunders 31. Division 2 – 1, Chris Clemens 33; 2, Roger Perkins 32; 3, Ben Tole 31.

North Devon Vets League. At a meeting at Libbaton, the Holsworthy team finished three points behind the home team. Results – 1, Libbaton 169pts; 2, Holsworthy 166; 3, RND 155; 4, Ilfracombe 148. Rob Blayney top scored with 38 points, helped by an eagle on the first hole.
