Saunton Golf Club hosted the West of England Veterans Inter County Championship, in which Cornwall, Devon and Somerset were represented by six golf clubs from each county, each fielding a team of eight players in a Betterball Stableford competition.

As expected, the scoring was high, with Devon retaining the title

Royal North Devon

Veterans Cresswell Trophy: John Eland and Geoff Wilford led the qualifying round of the John Cresswell Trophy in which the top eight couples now play off in match play format. Their return of 41 points in the Greensomes competition was closely followed by Billy Bowles and David Lloyd with 40.

Veterans Team Whisky: Winners were Pat Bowery, Alan Sutton and Alick Welton.

Veterans singles: Bob Lewendon won the Singles Knockout final in his first year as a member.He beat Peter Jefferies on the 19th after a tremendous fightback by Jefferies, who was eight down at one stage.

Veterans AGM: The section AGM takes place on November 6 and follows the vice captain’s competition in the morning.

Millennium Salver: Holsworthy Ladies took a “bit of a beating” in the Millennium Salver, losing out 5-1 to the men. The only winners for the ladies were Muriel Haywood and Carol Rockey who took on Richard Greenhalgh, whose partner failed to show.
