Barnstaple Pilot Gig Club's annual Sprint Regatta saw boats and crews from the hosts, Appledore, Ilfracombe, Torridge, Bude, Boscastle and Crackington race on the River Taw.

Appledore, racing in Whitford, were crowned overall winners, finishing one point ahead of Ilfracombe in Rogue. Torridge, in Will to Win, were equal third with Boscastle, with Barum's Nipper crews coming in fifth.

The first of the seven races was the men's veteran race, with crews enjoying a flat river with no wind.

The narrow channel around Fisherman's Point caused some clashes of oars, but it was Torridge who came out on top to cross the line at Queen Anne's statue, followed by Boscastle and Appledore.

Crews battled the falling river levels as the day progressed, but a full schedule was completed.

Appledore's ladies' veterans took the win in their race ahead of Ilfracombe and Torridge.

The junior races were combined with U14s and U16s taking to the water at the same time. Appledore came out on top in the U14 race ahead of Bude and Barum, while the U16 race was won by Ilfracombe, with Barum second.

The home club stormed through the length of the course to take first place in the men's A, with Torridge second and Appledore third.

The ladies' race saw Ilfracombe continue their form, taking first ahead of Appledore.

The B races saw Bude win the ladies' race ahead of Appledore and Torridge, and there was a third win of the day for Ilfracombe in the men's race.
