Titans Apollo have taken the North Devon Netball League Division-one title from Carol Anne Diamonds.

Theirs will be the first new name on the trophy in nearly 15 years.

Great shooting from both teams meant it was up to the defenders to make the difference and both Ruth Chamings and Vicky Hair were superb.

Apollo took an early four-goal lead, but Diamonds came back on level terms. Towards the end of the first half Apollo pulled ahead again by five, but once again Diamonds came back and the score was level going in to the final quarter.

It remained close until Apollo pulled away with five minutes to go and Diamonds did not have enough time to claw back the goals.

Venners-Bakery Vipers are still hoping of finishing third after beating Carol-Anne Sapphires 60-34. Lucy Loosemore shot accurately to net Vipers’ goals, while Emma Tomlinson’s work in the mid-court was impressive for Sapphires.

Reeds’ Silverside upset Frank Heard’s Heffers in Division two.

Heffers were depleted and Reeds capitalised, working together and building each quarter to win convincingly, led from the front by their captain Sarah Pearce.

Louise Flagg was Carol Anne Rubies star player in their victory over South Molton Falcons. Kath Kingdon shot well for South Molton but couldn’t do enough to prevent Rubies winning.

In Division three, Joss Allman led Venners Misfits to victory over Hartland Harriers, despite great timing in defence by Beth Gibson.

Langtree Reunites Rhinos and North Devon Homes had a close match, with Claire Fallow finding the net easily. Rhino’s Elsa Thorne’s movement and shooting was just superior to enable them to take a three goal victory.

Woolacombe Wolves regrouped following injuries to beat Venners Bakery Pythons in Division four.

Jerry Ashford worked the ball well through the court to give Wolves’ shooters opportunities to score. Jo Nancekivell was once again the Pythons’ dominant player and has helped them secure the runners-up position.
