North Devon angling scene with Tony Gussin
Bideford Angling Club’s 24 hour sea rover featured plenty of rays, but the dogs took the honours.
Lee Watts was first with a good dogfish of two pounds eight ounces (83.3 per cent).
Phil Vanstone was second with a thornback ray of 7lb 4oz (80.5 per cent) and Andrew Clements third with a spotted ray of 3lb 3 (70.8 per cent).
Darren Short weighed in a near specimen huss of 9lb 8oz or 95 per cent to take the Barnstaple Rod ‘n’ Reelers April rover.
Club members landed plenty of the species you’d expect in April, with rockling, dogfish and conger eels making up the rest of the catch but were not brought to the scales.
The Blakewell Fisheries spring competition for this Sunday is now fully booked, but the water will be hosting another on May 27 – check out www.blakewell.co.uk for the latest details.
At Stafford Moor, Jake Butcher and Jack Griffiths fished on Lodge Lake on swim one for a midweek session and had seven fish out between them up to 24lb 4oz.
Meanwhile, Lee Hayden and son Frank had 13 fish out from the summer hut swim on Beatties Lake up to 24lb.
And Colin Balment had a 30lb 2oz beauty out from swim 3 on the dam wall on Beatties.
