BIDEFORD Angling Club is alive, well and very much open for business. That's the message from the club committee as rumours persist around the town that it has closed or been forced to shut down.

"Contrary to popular belief the club is still open," said fish recorder Damien Babb. "The clubhouse is currently open Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, but we plan to add more nights to that in the next few weeks."

The clubs runs sea, coarse and games sections for both adults and juniors - new members are always welcome and anyone with an interest is invited to drop into the clubhouse at the corner of Honestone Street, or call Damien on 07875 611772.

Meanwhile, the annual Bideford away day and competition to Padstow saw Terry Dymond take the top two spots with good wrasse of 4lbs 8ozs and 4lbs.
