DIFFICULT conditions once again made life awkward for local sea anglers taking part in competitions this weekend, but a few managed to winkle out decent fish.

The monthly Barnstaple Rod ‘n’ Reelers Rover saw John Passmore take first with a near specimen flounder of 94.9% and weighing in at 1lb 14 ½ ounces.

A decent conger eel of 18lb ¾ oz ensured second place for Kevin Goodman, while Julian Stainer took third with another flounder of 72.2% or 1lb 7 ½ oz.

The positions were almost mirrored at the later North Devon League heat weigh in as John and Julian took first and third for Barnstaple Triple Hook took, while second went to Derek Ferrett for Combe Martin with a bass of 4lb 13 oz.

The next North Devon League heat is on the weekend of October 8/9.
