BIDEFORD Cricket Club has honoured a man who has served it as a player and in a variety of official positions over the past 50 years.In recognition of his services, Andy Davies was presented with a piece of engraved Dartington Crystal glassware by club chairman Brian Champion.In his playing heyday Andy was one of the best wicket-keeping batsmen in the county, scoring centuries and more than 1,000 runs a season.He also holds the club record of 46 catches and 26 stumpings in a season.Later he became Colts organiser, being responsible for providing a continuous supply of good young cricketers for the club and the county.Andy was recognised by the county and appointed to assist in managing a county colts tour of South Africa. His excellent work for Colts in the club was also recognised by the MCC and he was invited to a reception at Lords.Still club treasurer after many years, Colts manager, umpire, chairman of the ground committee, chairman of the North Devon Development Group, member of the Devon Cricket Board management committee, treasurer of the North Devon Colts League and of the North Devon Cricket Coaches Association, Andy's work for his club and for the county is legendary in the game.
