SLOW DOWN" is the message for drivers travelling through Braunton, as police and volunteers join forces to stop motorists breaking the law.

Police have recruited six people from the community and trained them in the Devon and Cornwall Police Speed Watch project, which means officers, schoolchildren and the whole community will now monitor vehicle speeds in the area.

Speeding drivers are not welcome and on the first two occasions a driver is caught they will receive a warning letter, educational material and a visit from the Neighbourhood Policing Team - if the advice is ignored heavier penalties will follow.

"It's superb that by utilising the Police Volunteer Programme our community can now work with us to make our roads safer," said Acting Sergeant Nick Rowell at Braunton.

"We are very grateful to the volunteers now work with us, giving up their valuable time to assist us with our work within the community.
