South Molton clinch narrow win with dramatic finale

North Devon Gazette

South Molton were given a run for their money by Old Plymothians before sealing a 24-20 win.Â

Molton went from 10-0 up in the first half to 20-17 behind with 10 minutes to go. Three minutes from time Molton got their noses in front again with a converted try, but the drama still was not over.Â

Deep into stoppage time the Old Boys won a penalty, kicked it into the corner and set-up the inevitable catch-and-drive move hoping for a try. Molton prevented the score and kicked the ball into touch at the first opportunity to clinch victory.Â

“We went 10-0 up and were then guilty of taking our foot off the gas,” said Molton head coach Scott Warren Williams. “With three minutes to go, and being down on the scoreboard, to steal the win showed immense character.”Â

Molton’s try scorers were Olly Squire (2), Hugo Mitchell, and George Down. Jake Cook popped over two conversions.Â
