THE routes for this year’s pedal-powered Devon Coast-to-Coast Challenge for North Devon Hospice will be unveiled at a launch party in Barnstaple this Sunday (January 30).

Hosted at the Inn on the Square, the event starts at 7pm and will offer potential participants and past conquerors alike the opportunity to see the all-new routes, as well as take part in a fun cycling-themed quiz.

The fund raising total from last year will also be announced and a cheque presented to the hospice.

Last year 320 cyclists tackled 70 mile and 100 mile routes from Plymouth on the south coast to Barnstaple’s Taw Estuary on the north. This year, organisers are hoping that even more budding pedal-pushers will join them.

The 2011 Coast-to-Coast Challenge takes place on Sunday, June 5. Entry is 20, with riders asked to raise a minimum of 50 sponsorship.

“Anyone who has taken part will know what a fantastic day it is, so they should come along to the launch and see what we’ve got up our sleeves,” said Andy Unstead, a cycle challenge veteran who has joined the organisers this year.

“Likewise, those who haven’t been part of it yet can get a real flavour of what to expect by coming to the launch party. It should be a great night and it also shows potential riders how much of a difference the event makes to the community, because we will be presenting North Devon Hospice with a big cheque from last year’s event.”

Andy and the team would also like to hear from any companies who would like to sponsor the event in some way.

Emma Lowe, from North Devon Hospice’s fundraising team, added: “This year’s event will be one of the best we’ve ever done so I hope lots of people come along next Sunday to see what’s in store.

“The Devon Coast-to-Coast Challenge is such a success story, and last year we were fully booked weeks before the event. This year there are 500 places on offer, so make sure you secure your spot by attending the launch party at Inn on the Square.”
