Shooting tribute to 9/11 heroes

Joseph Bulmer

BIDEFORD Rifle Club members competed in a unique competition among themselves, inspired by the memory of the 343 New York City firefighters who lost their lives in the 9/11 disaster.

The competition was suggested and run by junior member Alex Lane.

The aim was to score a total of 343 out of 400 - a lower level of shooting than most would expect and which had to be achieved by careful sight alterations.

No-one actually achieved the total of 343, but winner Keith Travis was only one point adrift, with Yvonne Hoile just one point further behind. Simon Dafforn was in third place with a three-point deficit. All received cash prizes and a special certificate.
