Barum Reserves warm up with a win

BARNSTAPLE Town Reserves hit the road and clocked up their first win in three games in the Devon & Exeter first division on Saturday.

Barum beat Sidbury 2-0 in a tricky away match at a bobbly Byes Lane to climb into sixth place above Witheridge Reserves, who were without a game at the weekend.

Craig Sandle broke the deadlock for the visitors on 50 minutes and player-manager Keith Shapland secured the points with a penalty kick 10 minutes from time.

“It’s a difficult place to go but we were fairly comfortable all the way through,” said Shapland.

“Once we got the first goal, it really settled us and after we put away the penalty it was game over.”

The win was the perfect antidote to three weeks without a win and helps set up this Saturday’s big Firewatch Devon Senior Cup quarter-final showdown with Elburton Villa at Mill Road.

The winner will play East Budleigh or Exeter Civil Service Reserves.
