Bideford beat Abingdon United 4-2 in the Zamaretto Southern League

BIDEFORD rediscovered their scoring boots with a 4-2 win against Abingdon United in the Zamaretto Southern League.

The Robins had failed to find the net in five games since the 1-1 draw with AFC Totton at the beginning of the month.

But goals by Matt Andrew, Ben Wood, Sean Downing and Kevin Squire sank the Oxfordshire side in front of a crowd of 96 at the Sports Ground on Saturday.

Andrews scored the first on the half-hour mark when he fired past goalkeeper Alan Foster from 12-yards after the visitors’ defence had failed to clear their lines.

After the break, United defender Kevin Halliday was shown a second yellow cards for dissent and their misery was quickly compounded when Wood grabbed Bideford’s second after being played in by Squire.

Squire was also the provider for Downing’s goal 15 minutes later before the visitors pulled one back with a deflected Aaron Parfitt effort.

With Abingdon pushing forward for more, Squire got on the score sheet himself with Bideford’s fourth.

Graham Lewis finished the scoring when he cut in from the left and fired home from 18-yards in the final few minutes.
