ROWERS from Bideford Reds have been in action in the South West Schools Indoor Rowing Championships, which drew 350 juniors from 30 schools across the region to Marjons in Plymouth.
They included Year 8 and Year 10 juniors from Bideford College and Bideford Reds, most of whom were racing at an Indoor event for the first time.
Top performer was Kieryn Grayson, who picked up a bronze medal in the Year 10 event, recording a distance of 1,430 metres for his five minute test against 33 other juniors of the same age. This earned him a 100.42% national gold medal standard.
The Year 8s had to race for three minutes. Top performers were Libbie Willis, who finished seventh overall in her class with a distance of 735 metres (98% of the gold medal target) while Eden Brittle was eighth overall with a distance of 766 metres (94.57%).
This weekend the Redsâ€™ Junior 15 crew of Miles Lemer, Alex Ferriday, Drew Mackenzie, Adam Crowther and cox Connor Allsop are off to Nottingham where they will represent the West Region at the National Junior Inter-Regional Regatta,.
They will race against the top crews from 11 other regions.
