Vinyl is back for one day only as local stores join a national celebration of independent music stores.
NORTH Devon’s independent music shops bite back with a return to vinyl on Saturday (April 16) as they take part in national Record Store Day.
At Movie Mix in Ilfracombe and Solo Music in Barnstaple customers can enjoy a one off release of exclusive records in classic vinyl by a host of international artists including Green Day REM, Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys. There will be live music from local artists on the day at both stores.
David Kosky at Movie Mix said it celebrated independent stores in the face of competition from larger retailers and the internet – where more than 1,000 once existed, Friday will see 185 UK stores taking part.
“It’s difficult out there but I believe people still want that record store experience,†he said.
“Part of the reason for the day is to get customers into shops who can go away with something in their hand rather than simply downloading from their computer.â€
There are 160 exclusives released on the day, mostly in vinyl and available in stores on a first come, first served basis.
Along with big name bands, organisers have expanded the choice of music this year to include blues, reggae, dance and rap among others.
The Ilfracombe store will have live music through the day from North Devon singer songwriter Sophie Parry.
In Barnstaple Solo Music has in store acoustic performances from Scott Xander Linn, The Confused, Sam Pascoe, Flee Mt Fuji and Sam Dowden.
