Rovers beat league leaders in 4-3 Rock Park rollercoaster

REB Rovers racked up their first points of the season with a dramatic win in the North Devon Sunday League.

The newly-formed side that rose from the ashes of Hemmens FC have struggled to find form in Division One, but something clicked on Sunday when they beat league leaders House of Heroes 4-3 at Rock Park.

The Heroes – last season known as U Can Store – had never been beaten prior to the weekend. But the Rovers had a couple of heroes of their own in the form of new signings Richard Shannon and Kirk Lace and grabbed a dramatic late winner two minutes from time.

Shannon scored three before substitute Tim Prowse came off the bench to grab the decisive goal.

“Tim’s been injured all season but he came off the bench to score a fantastic winner for us,” said co-manager Colin James.

“It’s been a difficult season for us so far in Division One and we’ve had three points deducted for fielding a banned player that we didn’t know about. But we’ve got a win now so at least we’re back on zero points,” he joked.

In the division’s only other game, Bratton Fleming hit nearly every square inch of the woodwork but failed to score in the 3-0 defeat at Dynamo Buddys.

In Division Two, J&A Cameras spanked Waverley Inn 10-1 at Rock Park. Tony Burgess scored five, Jamie Pow hit two and there were singles for Adrian Lynch , Jason Andrews and Dan Squires.
