Raiders’ challenge cup test

NORTH Devon Raiders face a tricky trip to Plymouth in their South West Challenge Cup qualifier on May 21 following the draw made at the Rugby Football League’s South West office in Exeter.

The four qualifying games are: Somerset Vikings v South Somerset Warriors, East Devon Eagles v Devon Sharks, Plymouth Titans v North Devon Raiders and Exeter Centurions v South Dorset Giants.

The reward for the Raiders would be a home semi-final against either Exeter or South Dorset on July 2nd.

The Raiders have started training and have had a good response so far. With the Union season drawing to a close, the club extends a warm welcome to anyone wishing to try the 13-man code this summer.

“We are particularly looking for forwards to strengthen our squad as a lack of size up front was one of our downfalls last season,” said chairman Sam Woolacott.

The Raiders’ season begins at home on Saturday, May 7 with regular Saturday afternoon games through to the end of July.

Training is at Barnstaple Rugby Club on Wednesday evenings.
