RAF Sea King helicopters grounded

They are still available for emergency missions, says MOD

ALL the RAF’s Sea King rescue helicopters have been banned from non essential flying while a technical issue is being investigated.

One of the Sea Kings from RAF Chivenor was due to have thrilled crowds at the Ilfracombe Rescue Day today (Wednesday), but it did not appear.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said all non-essential flying had been suspended following a technical issue which was discovered late last night (Tuesday)

But he stressed that the aircraft were still available to fly emergency missions if called upon. He could not say what the technical issue was.
