Alarm raised over suspicious doorstep charity collectors
POLICE in Bideford are warning people to remain alert following a number of reports of suspected bogus doorstep charity collectors.
They are urging residents to check for a legitimate ID card before handing over any money to door-to-door callers.
“Under no circumstance should people disclose PIN numbers or engage in conversations about bank accounts on the doorstep,†said PC Dick Rowlands.
People are urged to display “no caller†notices if they do not want strangers knocking their doors.
Anyone suspicious about the legitimacy of charity collectors is asked to telephone police on 101 and give as many details as possible, including associated vehicle registration numbers.
