‘Crazy twister’ and ‘whizzer’ replace worn out equipment

ILFRACOMBE children have been enjoying brand new play equipment at Bicclescombe Park thanks to North Devon Council and local fund-raising groups.

A new “crazy twister” and a “whizzer” have been funded by community councillor grants from councillors Colin Wright, Paul Yabsley and Robert Darell; the Bicclescombe Park Improvement Group; and the Lions Club of Ilfracombe.

The equipment replaces old, worn out pieces and is part of an ongoing plan to provide facilities for children of all ages at the park.

Terry Elliott, from the Bicclescombe Park Improvement Group, said: “The group was set up with the aim of raising funds to replace the adventure trail and other old equipment at the park.

“It is an inspiration to us all to see the first new pieces ready to be used. The group is going to continue working with others to raise funds to get more equipment so that it is a great place for local people to spend the day and a tourist attraction for visitors.”

Cllr Yabsley said: “I am delighted to support the park which I regularly visit with my grandchildren. The work that the Bicclescombe Park Improvement Group has done is tremendous and makes the park even better.”

John Forsdike from the Lions Club of Ilfracombe, added: “The Lions are always happy to help community projects in Ilfracombe both financially and physically. The club started in 1974 and has helped schools and the hospital in the town and is now pleased to help the park which is one of Ilfracombe’s gems.”

This year each North Devon councillor was allocated 1,000 to spend on projects within their electoral ward. That’s a total of 43,000 of funding for local community and voluntary groups or organisations.
