Pilton hold onto record

PILTON Academicals clung on to their unbeaten record with a tough 2-0 win at Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves on Saturday.

An under strength Accies side picked up all three points and moved into second in the Senior Division table thanks to two Quyen Tran goals.

Tran grabbed his first on 25 minutes when he back-heeled a Stephen Robinson free-kick into the bottom corner.

The midfielder gave his side a cushion with a second, 15 minutes from time.

After loses for Appledore Reserves and Northside Atlantic at the weekend, Pilton are now the only remaining undefeated side in the North Devon League this season.

They are five points behind leaders Shebbear United but have five games in hand.

Shebbear won 8-0 at home to bottom side Hartland, with Martin Davey grabbing four of the goals. Greg Mitchell (2), Matt Facey and Ben Pomeroy were also on target. Hartland were set to play at Torrington last night (Tuesday).

South Molton made it two wins on the bounce with a 4-2 victory at home to Park United.

Ryan Isaac opened the scoring for the Images on 15 minutes and Jamie Giffard celebrated his 18th birthday with his side’s second just before half time.

Park made it 2-1 through Kevin Buck soon after the re-start but birthday boy Giffard was in no mood to let the visitors spoil the party and recorded a special hat-trick with further goals on 70 and 87 minutes.

Robert Ousley scored a late consolation for Park.

In other results Braunton Reserves beat Barnstaple AAC Reserves 2-1 and Torrington Reserves drew 1-1 with Chittlehampton.
