Campaigners chant ‘they say cutback, we say fight back’ as marchers take to the streets of Ilfracombe on Saturday

Ilfracombe formed a red line along the High Street today (Saturday) for the Sees Red event to protest against cuts to local health services.

Led by the chant of ‘They say cutback, we say fight back’ the 200-strong group made its way to the Tyrrell Hospital.

The event was organised by Save Our Hospital Services as a prelude to the big North Devon Sees Red Day in Barnstaple next Saturday at 11am.

Organiser Netti Pearson said: “The idea is to raise awareness of the threat to acute services at North Devon District Hospital, to garner support for the event in Barnstaple the following week while showing that we in Ilfracombe are also ‘Seeing Red’.”

Despite a quote that ‘there are no red lines on services’ by Dr Alison Diamond of Northern Devon Healthcare Trust, campaigners are keen to prove there are red lines that should protect local services.

Netti added: “All are welcome to join us and we’d like them to wear red.
