Appledore puts on a sunny display as annual procession defies the elements
THE sun shone on Appledore on Sunday when the annual carnival swept through the seaside village.
Entrants young and old put their best creative talents on show in a parade of colourful floats and characters that dazzled in the rare window of fine weather.
The traditional procession was led by Appledore Pirates chairman John Cole, and young pirate, 11-year-old Ewan Cox.
The Jolly Rogers were followed by the Appledore Band, who shared the helm with 11-year-old carnival queen Katt Mallet and her entourage, attendants Summer Ford, seven, and Amy Cloke, 10, and carnival fairies Lily May Boulton and Ellie Newcombe, both four.
Appledore Pirates treasurer Betty Ford told the Gazette: “It was a spectacular carnival with a marvellous turnout and a nice crowd on the quay.
“The money is still being counted but it looks like we had a good collection.â€
This year’s overall title went to the Look Hairdressers for their “birthday party†entry.
Other rosettes went to The Beaver Inn for their Jelly Babies tableaux and to Jo Ford’s Star Wars ensemble.
